Let The Games Begin!
Updated on 2011-12-19 13:44:57Registration and Tryouts for 2012 Club Season is now Over
Thanks to everyone who came out to our Canuck tryouts. As usual there was an amazing amount of talent and our coaches and selection commitee had many difficult and sometimes heartbreaking choices to make to trim down to their actual team roster. To those who were released from our tryouts, we hope you will continue to work hard on your game and we hope to see you on the court this year and for years to come.
Congratulations to all those who were selected to play for Canuck this year. I know our coaches are very excited about the players they have chosen and are anxious to get to work developing their athletes and their teams. Now that the stressful part is over.....Let the work, the fun, and the games begin!

New Bantam Program!
Updated on 2011-10-27 09:26:36Project 16
The Canuck Stuff Volleyball Club and The Volleydome are proudly running a joint venture program called Project 16 aimed at developing Bantam age (born 1998 or 1999) volleyball players at the competitive club level.
This program will work with 40 male and 40 female athletes who will practice / train 3 times per week from late November through to the May long weekend under the direction of Don and Mylene Saxton, who will be running the program along with 8 other coaches.
All of the athletes will receive the same training and play in regular invitational tournaments, with the option of paying additional fees to play in AVA Premier Tournaments, AVA Provincials and Nationals.
The focus of Project 16 will be to expose more athletes to the kind of extensive training and superior coaching that will give them the opportunity to become successful school and competitive players through to their graduation in 2016 and beyond. These groups of athletes will practise together, play various positions and play games and tournaments with various team mates in an attempt to broaden their volleyball experience beyond that which is available with a regular 10 or 12 person club team.
This type of program is very much in line with the Canadian Long Term Athlete Development Program, but is by no means new to Canuck Stuff or the Volleydome. We have used this program in the past with outstanding results (National Championships at the juvenile level), and are looking forward to kick starting another group of amazing young athletes.

The fee structure for this program will allow families to choose the option and level of financial commitment that best suits their situation.

For the athletes that choose Options 2, the team will be selected through another tryout to be held later in March to select 1 boys team and 1 girls team (max. 10 athletes on each) that will represent Canuck Stuff at Provincials and Nationals.
Likely Practice Times:
Tuesdays Or Wednesdays 4:30 to 6:30 & Fridays 4:00 to 5:30 and Sundays 12:00 to 2:00pm
Identification Clinics:
On Nov. 19 and Nov. 26 we will be running a couple of Identification Clinics whose purpose will be twofold. First of all, the new coaches of Project 16 will be trying to teach some new skills to some bantam aged kids (born in 1998 or 1999), and secondly we will be trying to get a good idea which bantam aged kids are interested and have the potential to be a part of our Project 16 program starting in December. The Nov. 19 clinics will be from 10 to noon for 98/99 boys, 1 to 3pm for 98 girls and 3 to 5pm for 99 girls. Nov. 26 the boys will go again from 10 to noon and the 98 and 99 girls will be from noon to 2pm. The actual girls' tryout will begin Dec. 2 from 6:30 to 8:30pm and the boys will begin Dec. 3 from 4:30 to 6:30pm and rather than having lots of disappointed kids, we will try to do these by invitation only, based upon players we have seen in either Dome Club or else in at least one of these Identification Clinics.
If you require more information on this program please contact Don, Mylene or Brian at the Volleydome 403-284-3663, dsaxton@volleydome.net or canuckstuff@volleydome.net.

2012 Nationals in Toronto
Updated on 2011-10-27 09:16:56Volleyball Canada is very excited about 2012 National Championships being held in Toronto Ontario from May 17th to 22nd. This will be an enormous event at the Direct Energy Center, hosting nearly 10,000 athletes including all age groups U14 to U18. The U15 and U16s will run from May 17th to 19th and the U14s, U17s and U18s will go May 20th to 22nd. Canuck Stuff has secured airline tickets and hotel accommodations for all our athletes and coaches, and have booked some blocks for parents to reserve as most everything is already sold out. This should prove to be a very fun and exciting event, but will obviously increase fees for the 2012 season considerably for all Alberta teams planning on attending. This event will take place every 4 years and Volleyball Canada has announced that the National Championships will return to smaller regional events for 2013 and 2014.
2012 Fees
We have completed all the budget calculations for next season and have posted the fees for Canuck teams on our Parent Resource Page. What is CSVC?
Updated on 2011-10-22 16:27:38Canuck Stuff Volleyball Club is a competitive youth club proud to call The Volleydome their "Home" since 1997 and is run by a volunteer Board of Directors and currently holds several National Youth Championship titles plus dozens of Provincial Championship titles including an amazing 16 championship titles in 2004 Our club this year will consist of eight teams, four male and four female, (U15 to U18) that will play in the Alberta Volleyball Association Club Program. Canuck will join forces with the Volleydome to run a new U14 competitive program call “Project 16” for U14 athletes. (For more details please see the "Teams and Coaches" page.) Athletes between the ages of 14 & 18 are encouraged to tryout for the various teams in their age category. Registration details will be posted on this website in early October, with tryouts being held in early December for all age groups At Canuck Stuff our primary focus is on athlete development, helping players reach their potential as volleyball players and as people. We believe that winning is a by-product of hard work in a positive team environment as opposed to the end result of recruiting the ten best players. This philosophy has allowed us to help more athletes go on to play volleyball at the post secondary level and beyond than any other club. For more information, click on our FAQ page or call Brian Gullekson our club administrator at 403 973-7701 or at The Volleydome 403 284-3663.
2012 Season of Play Regulations
Updated on 2011-10-22 16:25:04In accordance with the AVA regulations (see below) the Canuck Stuff Volleyball Club will be holding tryouts starting Monday November 28th. The exact dates and times for each age group will be posted on our website in early October, along with our on-line registration for Canuck tryouts here at the Dome.
The document below is from the AVA website.
New 2011/12 Season of Play Regulations
Alberta Volleyball Club Try-outs/Season of PlayClubs will be permitted to facilitate clinics & camps in the off-season (June 1-November 30), but can’t sign athletes until the “Signing Date”. However, Alberta Volleyball recommends that clubs DO NOT facilitate any programs during the school season to prevent athlete participation overlapping between the two volleyball seasons.
Verbal commitments made at anytime are strictly informal as signing the AVA Membership Waiver form on the “Signing Date” is the only binding contract recognized by Alberta Volleyball. Clubs are required to ensure their coaches are honest and upfront with athletes/parents, and are using ethical recruiting practices.
The try-out period (13 days) for all age groups begins the Monday after the ASAA Provincial Championship. For the 2011/12 season, the try-out period begins on Monday, November 28 and finishes on Sunday, December 11. Any areas that have a city or regional Junior High School Championship after this start date must start their 13/14/15U try-out period on the Monday after that event.
Athletes are not eligible to sign with a club until the last day of the tryout period, the “Signing Date”. For 2011/12 season the date is Sunday, December 11. Clubs cannot collect any club deposits or fees until this time, excluding a try-out fee.
Once an athlete has made a formal commitment, which is defined as signing the AVA Membership Waiver form for the club, no further communication or contact from other clubs can be made with that athlete. The athlete is committed to that club for a minimum of one season (“Signing Date” – May 31). In order to change clubs during the season, a player must request a release from their club administration prior to competing for another team/club. The release request must be emailed immediately to the AVA Registrar at info@albertavolleyball.com, so the athlete’s transfer can be completed with Alberta Volleyball. Athletes have the right to register with any club and are free to try-out for any team until they have made a commitment (defined as signing the AVA Membership Waiver form for the club). The AVA Membership Waiver form is the only commitment agreement recognized by Alberta Volleyball.
