Twice in past years, the Volleydome has hosted a quiet little family tournament here on the closest Saturday to New Years.It was called the Saxton Challenge because it was originally designed as a family tournament for Canuck Club kids playing with their parents and siblings.Well the Saxtons have been growing up and now we’re ready to challenge Anybody, Anytime, Anywhere (actually only here at the Volleydome).This year in conjunction with Classic Jack’s we’re helping to organize and take entries for a New Year’s Eve tournament including both DODGEBALL (on the sand) and VOLLEYBALL (on the wood courts) for up to 24 Co-ed teams (2 Girls / 4 Guys).If it’s like a normal Classic Jack’s tournament there will be some very good volleyball going on that day and probably some pretty crazy dodgeball too.The advertising for the general public can be found at the Dome orHERE.
As in years past, we’d also like to encourage club kids and their parents to get involved.The silver Saxton Cup will be presented to the top team overall in the tournament and their names will be engraved on a plaque on the base of the Cup.There will also be prizes provided by Classic Jack’s for top teams in all divisions.The Volleydome will also supplement the tournament with prizes for the top Club teams who enter.“CLUB” for this tournament will be loosely defined as any team which includes at least 5 members from Canuck and/or Maximum including current Canuck Club or MaximumBeach members plus their parents, coaches, alumni, or siblings.There will be a prize for the top finishing Club team, for teams that include all members of any Canuck family, for wackiest play of the day and for best dressed during the tournament – this could be anywhere from shirt and ties like the Muellers to the McDonalds in their crash test helmets – hey for dodgeball those helmets might be an even better idea.So come on Poons, and Vissers and all you other competitive families – here’s your chance for another shot at the defending champions.If you want to enter in the “Club” category then email me at dsaxton@volleydome.net or phone 284-3663 to let us know that you want a spot ASAP.
