We are running a camp this week-end, Nov. 10 and 11 for grade 8 and 9 girls which we named the Volleydome’s Future Stars Camp based upon the tag line we have used with our VolleyballAcademy program since its inception.Last Friday I received a friendly email from the executive director of the Dino Women’s Volleyball Club telling me that they run a Future Stars Camp each summer and to avoid confusion we should not use that name anymore.I replied that we don’t want Calgary kids to confuse our VolleyballAcademy programs with Dino programs either, so in future we wouldn’t use the “Future Stars Camp” name anymore.Yesterday I received a less friendly fax from a lawyer representing the Dino Women’s Volleyball Club.Among other things he said that he is “demanding that you desist in the use of the said trade name” and that his “client intends on seeking financial compensation and an accounting of all monies your corporation has collected for the use of the said trade name”.
So apologies from the Volleydome if we have confused anyone with the name of our camp.If any of our patrons that have signed up for this camp feel that they were confused by this name, please come in for a full refund.Based upon the Volleydome’s history of helping young athletes grow into excellent volleyball players (including some University of Calgary Dinos) we do believe that we will be coaching some future stars this week-end, but from now on we will be calling themFuture Prospects Camps in support of the Volleyball Prospects Canada program which is a not for profit society which helps to develop, educate, expose and place young women in college and university programs throughout North America. All proceeds from the camp this week-end and additional Future Prospects Camps coming up (see Youth section for Nov. 24 information) will be going towards this excellent program which helps many young volleyball players (including my own kids) explore their options with respect to volleyball and their education.
