Canuck Stuff Club has evolved into a program for school aged kids, but originally it was an adult club and all those red and white banners up on the south side of the barrier between the Volleydome wood courts and the sand represent the spoils of victory from 8 national men's championships back in the 90's. This year many of those old Canuck champions have reunited in order to train for the World Masters Games to be held in Edmonton this July. Organized by two time Olympian Al Coulter under the name Canuck Classic, the Club has once again struck gold at the Canadian Masters Championships last week-end in Vancouver. The team boasts not 1, but 2 ex-national team setters (Rod Walsh and Dave Jones) as well as a host of other players with national team experience including the youngster in the group - 36 year old Randy Gingera. Randy and Canadian nationals MVP Mike Sieben are unfortunately too young to play with the group in Edmonton as that team will be all over 40, but Canuck Classic will be adding yet another former national team setter for those games - Terry Danyluk, coach of the U of A Bears. There will also be 4 middle blockers who think they should be setters along for the ride too, so with a setters union like that how can the team go wrong? Next stop, the under 40 USA Championships in Denver, June 1 to 4.
