Canuck Stuff Volleyball Club is a competitive club proud to call The Volleydome their "Home" since 1998. Our club this year will consist of ten teams, Five male and Five female, that will play in the Alberta Volleyball Association Club Program. (To see a list of the teams we will be running this season see "2011 Club Teams and Coaches".)
Athletes between the ages of 13 & 18 are invited to tryout for the various teams in their age category. Registration details will be posted on this website in early October, with tryouts being held in early December for Midget and Juvenile age groups, and in early January for the Bantam age group.
At Canuck Stuff our primary focus is on athlete development, helping players reach their potential as volleyball players and as people. We believe that winning is a by-product of hard work in a positive team environment as opposed to the end result of recruiting the ten best players. This philosophy has allowed us to help more athletes go on to play volleyball at the post secondary level and beyond than any other club.
Although we have made commitments for next season to a small handful of returning players, we believe that participating in open tryouts is one of the many important life skills that are developed with playing competitive sports and look forward to seeing the many kids that go through this valuable experience each year.
For more information, click on our FAQ page in the menu on the left or call Brian Gullekson our club administrator at 403 973-7701 or at The Volleydome 403 284-3663.
The Volleydome will also be running a new program this fall (and again this winter) called "Dome Club" as an alternative to the provincial club programs. Here athletes can sign up to practice and play in a (less exspensive) club style league here at The Volleydome. Players will be assigned to teams to practice with a coach and play in "in house" tournaments as well as enter local tournaments. For more information please call The Volleydome at 403 284-3663.

Congratulations must go out to Don Saxton, who was inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame as a Sport Builder in Edmonton this past weekend. This would come as no surprise to anyone who knows Don as he is forever trying figuring out new ways to get more people playing this great game, or ways to raise the level of play through another Camp, Clinic or Program. During the past twenty plus years since Don and Mylene opened the Volleydome, thousands of people young and old have come here to enjoy the game and improve their skills in this place filled with fun and a healthy competitive spirit. Don has been so successful at promoting the game of Volleyball that his greatest challenge has become finding a way to get more courts so he can continue to expand all his programs like Dome Club, Canuck Stuff, Volleyball Academy, and of course the Adult Leagues. Congratulations Don, we can't imagine anyone more deserving!!

Congratulations to Brett Walsh who was awarded the U16 Tachikara Athlete of the year this past weekend. This is Brett's fifth year at Canuck and played this past season with Canuck Kaizen. Brett is a very promising young player both on the hard court and on the beach. He is a tireless worker and would love to follow in his Dad's footsteps and perhaps set for our national team one day. Congratulations Brett and keep at it!
New for 2011 Club Season

It is the responsibility of the Board Members to keep the Canuck Stuff Volleyball Club current and competitive in the ever changing world of club volleyball. After a great deal of discussion the Board of Directors are excited to implement the following changes for the 2011 season.
1)CSVC will plan to run 10 teams for the 2011 AVA Club Season.
*One highly competitive boys team at each age group U14 through U18.
*One highly competitive girls team at each age group U14 through U18.
2)These 10 teams will receive additional practice and training time to help develop the athletes to their potential and to be more competitive at the highest levels.
*U16-U18 teams will receive 7.5 to 8 hrs/week of Practice/Training
*U15 teams will receive 6 to 6.5 hr/week of Practice/Training
* U14 teams will receive 5.5 to 6 hrs/week of Practice/Training
3)CSVC will create more continuity from year to year by allowing a Technical Committee and coaches to offer commitments to a few core players with each team at the end of each season if they so choose. The remaining available positions on each team will be filled in a tryout format that will be similar, but shorter than in the past. These commitments will include the club’s desire to continue to invest in the long term development of those athletes, and create a solid base for each team to build on rather than starting with an empty roster every season. All athletes on the team will still need to earn their playing time as starting positions will not be guaranteed. The number of positions available for each team will be posted before tryouts begin.
4)Year round training will be available including Skills Sessions, Strength & Agility Training, Beach Training, Summer Camps and Private Sessions so that all Canuck athletes will have plenty of opportunity to develop in the areas they feel they need to work on. For more information please check the website or call 403 973-7701.
5)Midget Tryouts will be on Sunday Nov 28th Juvenile Tryouts will be on Nov. 29th & 30th.
Bantam U14 Tryouts will be early January 2011
Canuck has the facilities, coaches and resources to offer a top ranking competitive club volleyball program for athletes who would like to commit the time and effort required to be competitive at the highest level and this group of athletes will become the focus for the Canuck Stuff Volleyball Club. We remain as always committed to providing athletes and their families a great club volleyball experience!

Congratulations to Canuck Reflex who finished fourth at U15 Nationals. The guys played their best volleyball of the season at the Canadian Midget Open defeating many opponents in straight sets, but losing a hard fought battle (16 - 14 in the 3rd set) on Sunday morning to their northern rival NAVC who went on to win the National Title. Reflex came very close to meeting them again in the final but ran out of gas in the semi final against the Ontario provincial champions after winning the first set 25-12. This was a good season for this young bunch and we look forward to lots more exciting volleyball from these athletes in the years to come.

This award is given out each year to the one female and one male athlete who best represent the positive attributes of a Canuck Athlete and also includes a $500.00 scholarship. Both Jordan and Hayley are very positive and supportive team mates who come to every practice and game ready to give 100%.We are proud to have them as role models both on and off the court, not only for their team mates but for the younger athletes within our club. They truely represent what it means to be a part of the Canuck family.

Congratulations to U14 Canuck Heat on a fabulous season; winning Gold at their 1st two AVA tournaments & Bronze at the provincials. The only match they lost in AVA play was to Red Deer in the provincial semi-finals, and they were able to take positive things out of this loss that helped them at Nationals in Saskatoon where they finished fourth. “This has been an exceptional group of athletes & parents” says coach, Candace Greves. “The boys have worked very hard this season as a team, not only improving their volleyball skills, but also the number of pushups they can do.... (much to their annoyance)”

Congratulations to Canuck Contact on their successful bid to represent Canada in Guadelajara Mexico at the 2010 Norceca Championships. Our U17 Mens team was joined by Brett Walsh and Luke Rauwerda from Canuck Kaizen and Don Saxton and Rod Walsh joined the coaching staff for this event. This was an awesome experience for this group as they got to play against two of the top ranked teams for this age group in the world. They lost their pool play matches with Cuba and USA (who went on to play each other in the final), but won both their cross over matches against Curacao and Costa Rica to finish seventh. One of the highlights of the trip was getting to hang out and spend time with the Cuban team, one in particular is a 16 year old 6'7 player that touches 12'2" and is already regarded as on of the best players in the game. You may notice a couple of his jerseys on players from Cantact as they were a popular item in the trading sessions.

Congratulations to Canuck Ignite on an oustanding AVA season! These young ladies have made amazing strides under the direction of Head Coach Michele Prince and assistants Gord Walsh and Caleb Barke. Their accomplishments include winning a Bronze medal at the Premier 1 and a Silver medal at Premier 2. After a heartfelt semi final loss at provincials to the Fog Hawks, the girls rebounded to defeat #1 ranked Nor-Cal Spark in the Bronze medal match by a score of 17-15 after fighting their way back from a 14 - 9 deficit in the 3rd set. Canuck Ignite will be competing in Saskatoon at Nationals in two weeks.Good Luck girls and keep up the good work.

Canuck Stuff U18 guys (or parts there of) competed in the Best of the West Volleyball Tournament this past weekend at Mt Royal. During this tournament we often see some of the exciting match ups that will part of the Juvey national championships. With 9 of their 12 guys they finished first in their pool, beating FVVC 18’s from Langley, Grande Prairie 18’s, and Prince Albert, then played Grande Prairie 18's again in the Semi and won 2-0. Stuff beat Elite West in the final winning the match in staright sets.

Canuck Stuff U18 guys finished the Premier Series of tournaments with a Gold Medal this past weekend in Grande Prairie. Stuff finished second in their pool and went on to beat Grande Prairie in the quarter final, Canuck Contact U17`s in the semi and defeated Elite West in 3 sets in the final. Both coaches commented that "the guys buying into the new system and working hard.is really paying off." Apparently Brandon Schmidt was vitually "unstoppable" in the final.
Canuck Contact finished at the top of the U17 teams losing to LVC for the Bronze. They are off to Mexico to compete as Canada's representative at Norcecas next weekend Good Luck!!

The final was no exceptionas they defeated Sherwood Park 17 - 15 in the 3rd set. Congratulations on a great season so far winning all their U14 tournaments and placing 3rd in the Volleydome U15 Tournament. Congratulation to Canuck Reflex as they defeated NAVC Green in the Gold Medal match for the second time this year in an AVA Premier. After losing to NAVC in Power Pool play, the boys played good solid matches against NAVC White in the quarter and LVC in the semi final only to meet their nemesis again in the final. This is the 6th time these two teams have met this season and 5 of the 6 have been by 2 points in the 3rd set. So far Reflex has won 4 of them by a score of 15 - 13. This has been a good season for this group of boys winning all four U15 tournaments and placing third in the two U16 tournaments they have entered this year. Keep up the good work!
Canuck Kaizen also had another strong showing, finishing second in Premier #2, losing to Canada West Ballista in the final. There seems to be another rivalry brewing here as well, with Kaizen and Ballista consistently meeting each other in the finals.

Our Canuck Bantam teams Fuego, Ignite, Heat and Xplosion seem to be obsessed with "Hot Stuff" for names, but why not.......as volleyball players they seem to be pretty "Hot Stuff" on the court as well.
Canuck Fuego U13 Girls defeated Queens Extreme to win Gold in Leduc. Canuck Ignite U14 Girls defeated the Pixies to win Bronze in Edmonton. Canuck Heat defeated Canada West Vertex in the semi final in 2 close sets and then defeated Fog Black 15 - 11 in the third set of the final at Rally Pointe for another set of Gold medals.
Congratulations everyone!

It was Sunday Feb 28th about 2pm and our Team Canada Hockey team was playing in Vancouver, in the most talked about game of the decade with Team USA battling for Oympic Gold. At the very same time Canuck Kaizen U16 Boys were playing in the Premier #1 Championship match against Canada West in Red Deer and Canuck Reflex were playing their nemesis NAVC Green for bragging rights in the U15 Boys final in Cochrane. For some reason both the Canuck teams noticed spectators ducking in and out during their matches which of course both had to go 3 sets. Canuck Reflex struck Gold first and saw the last 2 minutes of regulation time. Canuck Kaizen won Gold in time to see that dreaded goal with only 24 seconds left, and Team Canada not to be out done claimed Olympic Gold in overtime. All in all "A Golden Day!" Congratulations Everyone!
Juvenile Results

All four Canuck Juvenile teams are battling to stay in the thick of things in Division 1 at the AVA premiers for U17/18. The interesting part is......not only are they battling all the other clubs but they keep running into each other in the cross over matches. In the womens Premier #2 Canuck Vitality managed to beat Canuck Dime in the crossover match and went on to finish 4th the highest of any U17 team. In Premier 3 they met again in a match that went 22 - 20 in the third before Vitality was declared the winner. On the guys side it seems Canuck Contact and Canuck Stuff have the same magnetism because they met in the 1st Premier with the younger U17's being victorious in that match. Canuck Stuff U18s finished 4th in Premier #2 and then went into Premier 3 and won their Power Pool against the top 3 teams and finished round robin play ranked 1st going into the crossover against guess who??.....#8 ranked U17 Canuck Contact, who again upset the odds makers beating the U18 Stuff Team in 3 very close sets. Good work everyone, but what do you say we pick on some other clubs and have all our Canuck teams finish on the front side??
GO CANUCK!!
